Join the Movement: Monmouthshire’s Largest Coffee Morning
This year, between September 22nd and October 5th, Monmouthshire will host its largest Fairtrade Coffee Morning as part of Fairtrade Fortnight. Schools and community groups are encouraged to participate in this impactful initiative that promotes awareness about Fairtrade coffee, which protects both farmers and the environment.
The Significance of Fairtrade Coffee
Fairtrade coffee is not just an ethical choice; it also has significant environmental benefits. Traditional coffee farming practices often lead to deforestation and loss of biodiversity. However, by choosing Fairtrade products, consumers support methods that ensure sustainable farming practices. As Councillor Catrin Maby emphasizes, "More people are beginning to realize that buying Fairtrade makes a difference for growers, but fewer are aware of its environmental benefits."
Learning and Participation Opportunities
Participating schools will gain access to a free online, interactive lesson provided by the charity Size of Wales. This informative session will explore the connections between coffee culture and the tropical environments that produce it. Additionally, registered schools will receive Fairtrade coffee for staff use and have the chance to win a unique Fairtrade chocolate brownie-making workshop or a visit from a Ugandan coffee farmer.
Community Impact and Engagement
This campaign not only aids farmers but also brings communities together. By partaking in the coffee morning, groups can foster conversations around sustainable practices and make a tangible impact locally and globally. Every contribution helps raise awareness about ethical sourcing, demonstrating to students and community members alike that their choices matter.
