
Celebrating Achievements at Pontypool RFC’s Presentation Night
Pontypool RFC recently wrapped up its inaugural season in Super Rygbi Cymru with an end-of-season presentation evening at the Parkway Hotel and Spa in Cwmbran. The event, held on May 30, 2025, was a momentous occasion as players, coaches, management, sponsors, volunteers, and family members gathered to celebrate a year of hard work and remarkable achievements.
Recognition of Talent and Dedication
The evening kicked off with a warm welcome from club member Peter Jeffreys, who expressed gratitude to the Parkway Hotel staff for their continued support. The atmosphere was lively, thanks to master of ceremonies Nigel Meek, who ensured that the audience was entertained throughout the awards ceremony.
A highlight of the night included Tom Hancock presenting the coveted Captain’s Trophy to Mike Herbert, illustrating the significant contributions made by leadership on and off the field. Kieran Meek sweetened his evening by receiving an award for being the top points scorer with an impressive tally of 247 points, followed closely by Scott Matthews, who bagged the accolade for the most tries—11 in total.
Acknowledging Community Support and Engagement
The engagement of fans was also recognized. Morgan Allen was awarded the Supporters Player accolade based on popular vote, reflecting the deep connection between the club and its supporters. Co-team manager Ryan Thomas garnered the loudest applause of the evening as he presented the Players Player award to Mike Herbert, a testament to his standing among teammates.
The event concluded on a high note with additional awards presented by club members, including Marcus Jones, who received the M5 Associates Man of the Season award from Peter Jeffreys. This spirited celebration showcased not just sporting talent but the community spirit that continues to thrive in Pontypool.
