Monmouthshire Council Seeks Public Input on New Active Travel Route
Monmouthshire County Council is embarking on an initiative to enhance active travel in Caldicot by developing a new route through the scenic Caldicot Castle Country Park. The proposed Caldicot Multi-User Route is designed to connect the recent Caldicot Links/Greenway Active Travel route with the park's service road, providing a seamless journey for pedestrians, cyclists, and mobility users from Portskewett to the heart of Caldicot.
The main objective of this initiative is to promote a shift towards active transportation, which in turn aims to reduce traffic congestion, improve air quality, and foster healthier lifestyles among local residents. By making the park more accessible, the council hopes to encourage both locals and visitors to engage with the rich natural and cultural treasures that the area offers.
Get Involved: Share Your Thoughts!
Residents of Caldicot and nearby areas, including Portskewett, Sudbrook, Rogiet, and Caerwent, are encouraged to participate in shaping this new route by sharing their ideas through an online survey available throughout August. The survey can be accessed at www.letstalkmonmouthshire.co.uk.
To further engage the community, the council will host two public drop-in events where residents can view plans, ask questions, and leave comments on the following dates:
- 10th August 2025: 11am to 4pm at Caldicot Castle Country Park
- 11th August 2025: 9am to 5pm at Caldicot Leisure Centre
The Importance of Community Feedback
During the public consultation period, feedback will be collected and analyzed, ensuring that the final plans reflect the needs and preferences of the community. Cllr Sara Burch, Monmouthshire County Council's Cabinet Member for Rural Affairs, emphasized the significance of community input, noting: "We want to get it right, so I urge all residents to look at the plans and share their ideas. This route aims to be accessible and appealing to everyone, while preserving the area's unique ecology and history."
