Wales to Honor Armed Forces Community at Festival of Remembrance
The Royal British Legion (RBL) proudly announces the Wales Festival of Remembrance, occurring on Saturday, November 1, 2025, at the ICC Wales, Newport. This festival serves as a critical moment for people across Wales to unite in support of the Armed Forces community. Tickets for this meaningful event are now on sale.
A Celebration of Remembrance and Reflection
Returning as the host for the festival is presenter Sian Lloyd, who will guide attendees through the evening's commemorations. This year’s festival highlights significant milestones, including 80 years since the end of World War II and the lifting of the ban on LGBT personnel in the British Armed Forces, which predates the year 2000. Additionally, there will be a poignant reflection on the lives impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic and an acknowledgement of the Armed Forces' vital support during that time.
Musical Entertainment and Community Spirit
The festival promises an engaging musical program featuring performances from the South Wales Gay Men’s Chorus and soprano Laura Sidney, who returns to grace the stage once again. Also, the Regimental Band and Corps of Drums of the Royal Welsh will provide an exhilarating backdrop to the festivities, illustrating how music plays a crucial role in fostering community spirit and honoring those who serve.
Impact of the Royal British Legion
As emphasized by Antony Metcalfe, Head of Community Engagement at the RBL, attendance at events like this not only honors the past but also ensures ongoing support for over 22,000 service personnel and their families. This support ranges from mental health recovery programs to assistance with finances and housing—an essential service that dramatically impacts lives.
One impactful testimony comes from Glan Conwy veteran Damien Margetts, whose journey from the Army to civilian life was supported by the RBL as they helped him secure housing and find his footing. His story illustrates the real-world significance of supporting the Armed Forces community and how the RBL plays a pivotal role in their transitions.
