Summer Magic: Community Comes Together at Sunrise Social
In Chepstow, a unique summer playscheme called Sunrise Social has become a beacon of joy for families, drawing in children and their parents alike. Managed by the Chepstow Drill Hall arts centre, this initiative, spearheaded by Gemma Peters, has been creating unforgettable experiences throughout the summer holidays.
Every weekday morning, families eagerly queue outside, with excitement palpable as the doors open to a variety of activities tailored for a range of ages. “We're thrilled with how well Sunrise Social has taken off,” Peters expressed, highlighting the scheme’s rapid growth from its inception. “The children, as well as their parents and carers, are enjoying everything we've organized.”
Funded by Chepstow Town Council, the scheme is not only free for children but also provides essential meals to them—complemented by snacks throughout the morning. Parents have the option to purchase refreshments from the onsite canteen, staffed by dedicated Drill Hall volunteers.
This initiative is more than just fun; it fosters social connections among parents. “They appreciate having a friendly space where children can make new friends while they themselves can connect with others,” Peters noted, emphasizing the community spirit that Sunrise Social promotes.
Offering an engaging atmosphere for everyone from babies to teens, each day brings new and varied activities, ensuring there is always something fresh for the families to enjoy. With steady support from local authorities and the community, Sunrise Social is redefining summer fun in Chepstow.
