Summer's End with Harmonious Notes
The Abergavenny Symphony Orchestra (ASO) gracefully closed its summer season with a performance that left audiences entranced. The highlight was a vibrant rendition of Mozart's flute and harp concertos, featuring the exceptional talents of local soloists Isabelle and Emily Harris, whose collaboration with the orchestra underscored the community's artistic prowess.
Celebrating Local Talent and Joy in Music
ASO members often recount how their passion for music ignited through orchestral playing. In a season where they honed their skills, rehearsals unearthed delightful moments such as discovering the hidden harmonies within Elgar's Enigma Variations and the playful energy of ‘Let’s Go Fly a Kite’ from Mary Poppins. Tessa Lewis, ASO’s Chair, credited the orchestra’s achievements to their dynamic conductor, Michael Bell, who is also the founder of the Cardiff Philharmonic Orchestra. She emphasized the joy of rehearsals, creating an enriching environment for these musicians.
A Bright Future: Upcoming Concerts in Abergavenny
Looking ahead, ASO encourages audience participation with exciting performances on the horizon. On October 4, they will join forces with the Pendyrus Male Voice Choir for a collaborative concert at St Elvan's Church in Aberdare. Moreover, a concert on November 16 promises a diverse program featuring compositions like Sibelius's Finlandia and Saint-Saëns's Havanaise, performed by talented local violinist Erin Morgan. As the year concludes, ASO also plans a family-themed concert in December, continuing their tradition of bringing music to the community.
Appreciation for Audience Support
Tessa Lewis expressed heartfelt gratitude to the ASO audience for their ongoing support, which plays an invaluable role in the orchestra's success. Concerts like these not only showcase local talent but also serve as a reminder of the magic that music brings to collective cultural experiences in Abergavenny.
